How Men Meet
A Storyphoto
Isaiah and his father both have full beards but there the resemblance ends. Isaiah is tall, his father shorter. Isaiah has a full head of hair; his father is beautifully bald. Isaiah is gay; his father is not.
I know a lot about Isaiah and his father. One is my husband; the other is my father in law.
I’ve been after Isaiah to make plans for Fathers Day. We’re going to my parents for dinner. I suggested we go with his dad to church, then take him to brunch. His brother isn’t going to do anything, and maybe that’s for the best. Mr. Foster and his younger son don’t get along.
I met Isaiah in church. His late mother wore the most amazing hats. His father always looked sharp in suit and tie. Isaiah wore jeans. I knew right away I loved him. We were seven and eight at the time.
It took Isaiah a few more years to come around to my way of thinking. Ten, in fact. He’s always been a procrastinator. Like with Fathers Day. At this point, maybe I should just make brunch reservations myself. I know Albert’s favorite places as well as I know his son, which is very.
Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers and sons, even if you don’t get along.

I am so envious of people who have good relationships with their fathers. Mine was a somewhat functional alcoholic who died a few years ago from his drinking. He estranged himself from myself and my sister due to his embarrassment.
Thank you, Steven and Anthony, for restacking my story!
